MAP & WALKING TOUR

Take a stroll up State Street to visit these popular sites and burn a few calories at the same time.

   Stearns Wharf:
This is Santa Barbara’s number one tourist spot! On Stearns Wharf you can find specialty shops, restaurants, marine life at the Sea Center, and a beautiful view of the harbor.  Take a walk to the end of the wharf and you can say hello to some local pelicans.

 B   Harbor:
The harbor is where you can rent SUP (stand-up paddle) boards and kayaks to cruise alongside the boats.  You can find some great local seafood at the restaurants here and visit the popular Maritime Museum.  You can also take a walk out on the jetty—watch out for big waves!

The Funk Zone is a unique and eclectic mix of artisan shops, art galleries, eateries, tasting rooms, and microbreweries.  It is a quick 5 minute walk from the wharf to this hip neighborhood so sit down for a bite to eat or sip on local wines.

 D  Paseo Nuevo:
Paseo Nuevo is a beautiful place to shop, dine, and watch a movie.  This never too busy Spanish-style outdoor shopping center, off of State Street, is a relaxing place to stroll, people watch, and enjoy downtown Santa Barbara.

E  Santa Barbara Museum of Art:

Cocktails, Wine, and Beer

On vacation many of us like to let loose and kick back a few drinks.  In Santa Barbara you can find everything from a high end malt whiskey to a 007 martini – shaken not stirred of course.  To be safe, if you use insulin, please remember:

  • It can be difficult to tell when your blood sugar levels are low after a few drinks – so when in doubt, test your blood to see where they are
  • If you have had one too many, you can experience the “morning after the night before” which is having low blood sugar the next morning. So think about a snack before bed and eat breakfast.
  • Other people might confuse drunkenness with low blood sugar: so tell your friends about diabetes before you start drinking and what they can do to help
  • Be sure to eat food – protein – while enjoying an alcoholic beverage
  • Don’t give any insulin to cover your alcohol intake
